Andy Falk, renowned restaurateur from Cape Town, has recently opened Plat du Jour, his country bistro, in the charming town of Dullstroom, in the Mpumalanga highlands. Andy for many years in the 80's and 90's ran the highly successful Andy's Bistro in Seapoint. After a break of eight years, he has come back to his passion of cooking.


Plat du Jour is based on French provincial and home cooked meals, the menu depending on seasonal availability. Currently asparagus is a popular item, with wild porcini or cep mushrooms being an absolute winner. Roast duck with ginger and orange sauce, one of the signature dishes from Andy's Bistro days, is already a big favourite at Plat du Jour, and the pot roast shoulder of lamb is fast becoming another requested dish. For a simple wholesome meal, the cottage pie is hard to beat. Dullstroom is the capital of trout fishing in South Africa, and Andy is quite happy for clients to bring their freshly caught trout to be prepared in the kitchens.

 

Plat du Jour is a fully licensed restaurant and is open for lunch and dinner Wednesdays to Sundays. Opening on other days is possible by prior arrangement. Seating about 40 covers, Plat du Jour is available for small private functions and weddings, as well as tour groups en route to or from the Kruger National Park.
